Speak Our Truths.
The truth is that Black women, girls and trans folks are at greater risk of gender-based violence. Because of slavery and white settler colonialism. Yet there is there is little or no investment in the health, safety or well-being of Black women, girls, and trans survivors of gender-based violence.
The lack of identity-based research renders these truths invisible.
WomenatthecentrE ‘s groundbreaking research centres the truths about anti-Black gender-based violence. So, we are working in partnership to document the voices and lived experiences of Black women, girls, and trans survivors of gender-based violence in Surrey. We want to know why some Black survivors choose to walk through our doors while others do not...
Our partnership is designed by and for Black survivors of gender-based violence. It counters white Eurocentric research by:
- Honouring African Indigenous ways of knowing and being
- Affirming the diverse identities of Black Peoples
- Co-creating knowledge with our communities
- Truth-telling as the catalyst for change
Your voice is important to us. Help inform a national gender equity strategy for Black women, girls, gender diverse and trans survivors of gender-based violence.
If you live or work in Surrey, there are 3 ways to get involved:
